Get Your ESA Letter

Once approved you will receive your ESA letter in 24 hours

In the United States (under the Fair Housing Act for housing and the Air Carrier Access Act for air travel—note: the ACAA rules changed in 2021 so ESAs are no longer guaranteed cabin access on flights), the only thing that legitimately "certifies" an animal as an Emotional Support Animal is a signed letter from a licensed mental health professional (e.g., psychiatrist, psychologist, licensed clinical social worker, or therapist) who is currently treating you.

What a valid ESA letter must include:

  • Be written on the professional's official letterhead

  • Include the provider's license number, type, and state of licensure

  • Confirm that you have a mental or emotional disability (as defined by the DSM)

  • State that the emotional support animal is part of your treatment plan and necessary for your mental health

  • Be dated within the last year (most landlords and airlines require it to be recent)

What is NOT legitimate:

The legitimate path is straightforward: speak with your existing therapist/psychiatrist, or use a reputable telehealth service that connects you with licensed professionals who can evaluate you and issue a proper letter if they determine an ESA is appropriate for your treatment.

Always keep the original signed letter handy, as landlords and (when relevant) airlines can request it. If you have any specific questions about the process or need help identifying legitimate services, feel free to ask!
